Madina Church Choir Celebrates 40th Anniversary
As part of activities to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Main Choir of the Madina Queen of Peace Catholic Church, it organized a Sing-song-Concert at the Church.
Participating Choirs included the St. Bernadette Youth Choir, Madina; Marian Youth Choir from the Adentan Holy Rosary Catholic Church; the Trinity Methodist Church Choir from the Madina Estates and the AME Zion Church Choir, Madina.
The four-hour Concert saw the participants singing various songs in Akan, Ewe, Ga and English.
In a brief history, Mr. Paschal Accapoe, popularly known as “Choir-Father”, said the Choir still had eight of its pioneering members – Madam Gifty Torkornoo, Madam Evelyn Hahormene, Madam Cecilia Gawu, Madam Stella Kwame Otu-Quarshie, Madam Janet Acquah, Mr. Paschal Accapoe, Mr. Mathias Kligo and Madam Grace Soglohu, thanking them for their sacrifices and continuous support.
He said the Choir was formed in February 1977 at the house of a former Choirmaster, Mr. Philip Agbe-Carbonu of blessed memory, adding that two former attempts to form the Choir failed.
Mr. Accapoe said some of its successes include emerging as winners in 2016 Zone D Deanery Singing Competition, coming fourth in the same completition in 2012 and won the 2008 Deanery competition.
Mr. Accapoe was grateful to the Patrons’ Council led by Mr. Opoku Mensah for their tremendous assistance.
